We hope that you will have time and a sunny day to enjoy the peace, privacy and tranquillity of the Mill Cottage gardens. Relax in the sun, wander along the pathways beside the Grehan Stream or picnic in the shade of the walnut tree.
The gardens blends harmoniously with the surrounding country landscape

Features of the gardens include the Grehan Stream, the potager, the summer house, walnut trees, citrus orchard with lemons, oranges and grapefruit, the petanque court and the streamside pathway.

The Cottage was built in 1852 by the Haylock family who also built nearby the first water driven flour mill in Canterbury. The flour mill has now disappeared but it was located in neighbouring land at the end of the mill race which still remains today in the bush behind Mill House.

Following the demise of the flour mill the building was used as a jam factory and later as a brewery. Many old fruit trees remain in the garden including damsons, cherry plums, pear trees and also walnuts, figs and hazelnut trees.
The garden is home to many birds including fantails, wood pigeons, grey warblers, bellbirds, tui and quail.

An ideal location and setting for the smaller wedding and family celebrations. Contact us for further details.
