Radiating pure, rustic romance, this 1850s cottage offers the quintessential Akaroa experience. Nestled in a secluded and sheltered two-acre paradise, you’ll wake up to the sweet sound of native birdsong. Explore Mill Cottage’s garden pathways and hidden nooks and crannies beside the stream that once powered Canterbury’s first water-driven flour mill. Wander down to the village – an easy 10-minute walk – and discover the quaint shops, cafes and restaurants. While you’re there, drop by the Akaroa wharf to buy fresh fish or book a trip on one of the many harbour excursions.
This luxury, self-catering, cottage has everything you need for a superbly comfortable stay. The traditional cottage interior has been lovingly refurbished with lashings of designer furnishings, soft textures and linens. In the winter the log burner merrily crackles away, creating a warm, romantic ambience with plenty of kindling and firewood.
Our delightful garden room is attached to the main house and opens onto the parklike gardens. Private with its own entrance, this spacious studio room is modern and contemporary in design with a touch of French country and features a beautiful ensuite with underfloor heating. It’s complete with a small fridge and tea and coffee-making facilities. While no cooking facilities are available with this room, a light continental breakfast is supplied.
